Fly the Whale seaplane service operates under VFR rules and doesn't appear in standard flight tracking. Seaplanes board at the Svend Aage Ovesen Seaplane Terminal, Christiansted Harbor (STX) or the Charles F. Blair Jr. Seaplane Terminal, Charlotte Amalie Harbor (STT) — not the main airports. STX Airport — Common Questions
Everything travelers ask about flying to and from St. Croix, USVI.
Cape Air and Silver Airways operate the most frequent service into STX, with daily flights connecting St. Croix to San Juan (SJU) and St. Thomas (STT). American Airlines offers seasonal nonstop service from Miami (MIA), and JetBlue operates seasonal service from New York (JFK). Delta runs seasonal flights from Atlanta (ATL) during peak winter months.
Arrive 2 hours early for domestic and inter-island flights. Henry E. Rohlsen Airport is smaller than STT, but security can back up during peak morning departures. Give yourself extra time if you're connecting to a mainland flight via San Juan.
St. Croix is a U.S. territory — U.S. citizens do not need a passport for flights from the mainland. A valid government-issued ID is sufficient. Non-U.S. citizens should check visa requirements for entry to U.S. territories.
There is no public bus from the airport. Your options are: Taxi (shared taxis run set per-person rates — about $12/pp to Christiansted, $10/pp to Frederiksted), Rental car (all major agencies at the terminal — remember to drive on the left), or hotel shuttles. Uber and Lyft do not operate in the USVI.
Mid-December through April is peak season — dry, cooler weather and the most airline routes active, including seasonal mainland service. May and June offer great value with fewer crowds. July through November is hurricane season with discounted fares but weather risk. The St. Croix Food & Wine Experience in April draws visitors during shoulder season.
Yes. Cape Air and Silver Airways operate daily inter-island flights between STX and STT — the flight is only about 20 minutes. You can also travel between the islands by ferry, which departs from Christiansted Harbor and takes approximately 1 hour to St. Thomas.
