St. Croix Hotel Booking Tips

What you need to know before you book.

📅
Book Early for Peak Season
December through April is high season. The Buccaneer and Carambola sell out months in advance over Christmas and New Year's. If you're traveling peak season, book as early as possible — prices can be 2–3× off-season rates.
🌧️
Low Season Has Great Value
May through November is hurricane season but most weeks are perfectly fine. You'll find 30–50% lower rates and far fewer crowds. September and October carry the most weather risk — May, June, and early November are sweet spots.
🚗
Rent a Car if You're Exploring
St. Croix is 84 square miles — the largest USVI island. If you want to see Cane Bay, Point Udall, the rain forest, and Frederiksted, a rental car is essential. Remember: drive on the LEFT. Cars are available at STX airport.
🤿
Divers: Stay Near Cane Bay
The Cane Bay Wall is one of the Caribbean's top dive sites — a dramatic coral wall starting in shallow water and dropping to hundreds of feet. If diving is your priority, staying in Cane Bay or the north shore means the wall is literally steps from your room.
🏖️
All Beaches Are Public
In the USVI, all beaches are public by law. You don't need to stay at a resort to enjoy the beach. Sandy Point (nesting sea turtles), Rainbow Beach, and Cane Bay are all accessible to everyone. However, resort amenities (chairs, food, drink) are for guests.
💰
Check for Resort Fees
Many St. Croix resorts charge mandatory daily resort fees ($20–$50/night) on top of the room rate. Always check the total nightly cost including fees before booking. Booking.com typically shows the all-in price upfront, which makes comparison easier.
