Arrival Times by Flight Type

Henry E. Rohlsen Airport is smaller than most mainland airports, but "small" doesn't mean you can cut it close. Here's the honest breakdown by flight type:

Inter-Island Flights (Cape Air / Silver Airways)

Arrive 45–60 minutes before departure. Cape Air closes check-in 30 minutes before the flight and won't hold the plane. The weight-in process for luggage adds time you won't have if you're cutting it close. Silver Airways is slightly more forgiving but 45 minutes remains the right target.

Mainline Domestic Flights (American / JetBlue / Delta)

Arrive 2 hours before departure. During peak season when these flights run, the terminal gets significantly busier and TSA lines back up during morning departure banks. Two hours isn't excessive — it's practical.

When the Airport Gets Busy

STX's busiest times are early morning (6–9 AM) when multiple inter-island flights depart in sequence, and the afternoon when arriving passengers and departures overlap. Midday and evening tend to be calmer. If your flight is in the morning departure bank, be there with time to spare.

One More Thing: Cape Air Baggage Weigh-In

Cape Air weighs both passengers and luggage before every flight. This process is quick but adds a step that most travelers aren't used to. Factor in 5–10 extra minutes if you're flying Cape Air — and don't be surprised when they ask your weight.
